Hmmmm ... game feels more like an 80s arcade game than a piloting a mech simulator. The game is aesthetically pleasing but the feel doesnt give me the impression of being in a military grade fighting machine.

I think it does a better job than Hawken or a more anime-ish genre. The aesthetics are a lot of the "feel" and while there are some things that are simple, I think for the general populace (what this game needs to survive) it does a pretty good job.

I think the problem is the maps over anything else... Too small, overly designed, and not believable...

So a founder comes to this conclusion after 2 years of playing? There must not be much to complain about when they start complaining about how the game makes them feel.

For some people it is not arcadey enough. Remove LRMs, they say.

I think this is a good point. We need more maps with a more war torn feel to them. Most the buildings in River City and Crimson Strait are still habitable after a battle... How likely do you think that is given the genre? IMO if they cannot do destructible environments then they should "dirty" up the maps a lot.

The game was in beta for what? a year? it has changed quite a bit and i think hardcore fans still hope for a true mechwarrior game. I really liked how the damage cost in the beginning countered boating and forced people to change their loadout to match income and prevented all mechs being maxxed out but it was too hard and not arcade enough i guess.

Well I can agree with you, however it used to be much better although never in its existence has it been anywhere near realistic.

The recent nerfs to autocannon range and addition of modules that basically completely negate LRM's have made the game a close combat brawler that feels too much like that Hawken game now. It's completely unrealistic how huge ballistic weapons cant shoot effectively at 1km ranges yet in real life small arms can shoot much further than that. The game has basically devolved to having mechs the size of large buildings at what is essentially melee range blowing the crap out of each other yet there is no melee weapons. This is basically a game set in the future where we have the technology to build giant advanced robots with heavy weaponry with the longest ranged ones being ironically outranged by the cannon technology we had in the 16th century and most of the other weapons being outranged by the bow and arrow which was invented in 8,000 BC. (maybe much older than that but im using the date of the oldest complete bow that was found.)

The ranges of weapons are actually better than tabletop. If you gave them even longer range than you'd just devolve into long range sniping matches with everyone using the same guns.

I'm curious to those who say the game is not a good simulator. What exactly do you want it to be/do? I've had the conversation with a number of people and no one can really offer up exactly what they want, they just don't want what they got.

because it isn't a simulator....it is an action game. The dev have even said that in posts.

they can't make it a full blown sim or TT replacement. it doesn't translate into an action game and if they made it a full blown sim, they'd completely limit their player base which means less money.

It's this - the maps are pretty, but they feel like orchestrated arenas. If we later found out that all of this was taking place on Solaris VII, it would all make sense...

I would not complain if they dropped another bit of visual immersion. (Like getting rid of the some of the things on the floating HUD and putting them on those little computer screens that currently have no signal.)

I miss having the Heatsink count/status, for example.

Go play Mechassault or Mechassault 2 now those are true simulators /sarcasm

The game has changed a lot since beta and is action oriented than simulator but not as arcadey as one may be lead to believe, see above comment, lol.

When you see 100 Ton Mechs get vaporized it under five seconds... yeah... feels like an arcade game.

But it's totally ok for the 100 ton mech to vaporize the 35 ton mechs in 5 seconds, right? Can we agree that if someone dies in a 100 ton mech in 5 seconds, he probably isn't a "Thinking-man's strategy simulator" type of player to begin with?

Can we get a unanimously agreed upon definition of 'arcade?'
